What's the best and easiest way to know what's in your pet's food?
By making it yourself!
Looking for the perfect dog treat recipe to match a busy schedule? Look no further! We know how it is… as adults, we don’t always have the time to cook for ourselves, let alone our pets. That’s why we’ve simplified our dog treat recipe down to just three ingredients, and made the process as quick and easy as possible!
So, let’s get right to it.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 3 tbs oil
- 1/3 cup chicken broth/stock
And that’s it! This small ingredient list shows items most likely found in your home already.
No extra trips to the grocery store!
Directions
- Set oven temperature to 350º F
- Mix all ingredients in a medium sized bowl
- Continue to knead ingredients with hands, forming the dough into a ball
- Roll dough, then cut cookies using a cookie cutter or knife
- Place treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Make sure you allow the treats to cool first.
To dry out the dog treats for longer shelf life, turn off the oven but don’t remove the sheet of dog treats. Keep them in there until the oven completely cools.

Chicken broth and other bone-based broths contain collagen, which is good for joint health and glycine – an amino acid that helps detox your dog’s kidneys and liver. If you plan to make your own chicken broth, leave out the onions and garlic. When buying broth, look for an organic, non-GMO broth to avoid adding extra salt and preservatives to your dog treats.
Whole wheat flour is a great choice for homemade dog treats, but be wary as it contains gluten which can trigger allergies for some dogs and people. If you know your dog has a grain intolerance, you’ll want to look for a gluten-free option.
